A Letter to Albert Einstein

The Boyden Library February Question of the Month involves a letter to Albert Einstein.

The Question:  A little known fact about this Deerfield Academy alumnus (whose courage is immortalized in a bestselling memoir* and a 1975 Emmy nominated movie* is that he corresponded with Albert Einstein while still a student at DA. Who is this student?

School Meeting January 11 features Music and Dance

To continue the exhilarating spirit of this week's school meeting, library staff invite you to visit the American Song online database.  American Song is best described by the database itself as "a history database that allows people to hear and feel the music from America's past.The database includes songs by and about American Indians, miners, immigrants, slaves, children, pioneers, and cowboys. Included in the database are the songs of Civil Rights, political campaigns, Prohibition, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, anti-war protests, and more,"

School Meeting January 4: The Importance of Sleep

The January 4 school meeting included an inspiring presentation by Mrs. Loftus on the importance of a proper night's sleep.  Among the library's bounty of information on this subject is the Teen Health & Wellness database as well as the library's informative circulating collection.

The Boyden Library is currently featuring a display of books that were given as a gift by Bloomsbury Press. Nigel Newton, DA Class of 1973, is the founder and chief executive of Bloomsbury Press.

School Meeting December 7: Human Rights Watch

The Tuesday, December 7 School Meeting featured Carol Bogart of Human Rights Watch.  Ms. Bogart discussed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and overviewed her organization's mission of focusing upon research, writing reports of violations of human rights in each country around the world, and of publicizing these research documents with the goal of making the abuses stop.
